We are pleased to announce a joint venture between the Escanaba Veterinary Clinic and the Thompson Veterinary Clinic to provide weekend emergency services for your pets.
Our clinics have been fortunate to be able to offer high quality veterinary care to our area for many years, both during and after business hours. However, the veterinary community is currently struggling to fill needed positions for trained veterinary professionals, such veterinary technicians and doctors. We want our veterinary teams to continue to have quality of life and work-life balance, and do not want to see after hour services eliminated due to excess overtime and burnout. The EVC and TVC doctors are committed to the care of your pets and want to ensure that after-hours care will be available on weekends and holidays, as the need arises.
Going forward both EVC and TVC will be working together to implement a rotating schedule for weekend emergency services. We will utilize a veterinary professional call center to take your phone calls. You will be able to call the regular phone number of EVC or TVC and will be smoothly redirected to a veterinary professional who can discuss any urgent concerns you may have regarding your pet's health. The call center will then contact one of the doctors from either EVC or TVC with your request for assistance. For example, you may call for emergency services on a Saturday night, speak to a veterinary technician from Guardian Vet answering service, and be put in touch with the after-hours doctor from Thompson Veterinary Clinic who will arrange to see your pet in Manistique. The next weekend you may be directed to one of the veterinarians from the Escanaba Veterinary Clinic who will arrange to see your pet in Escanaba. Animals that require 24-hour monitoring or specialized care may be referred to a 24-hour emergency clinic in Green Bay, WI. We will each continue to offer Monday-Thursday after-hours emergency services as previously available in our home offices in both Manistique and Escanaba.
Large Animal - If you use TVC for your horses, livestock or other "farm animals", please be advised we are no longer offering ambulatory emergency farm calls. If you need a large animal veterinarian after hours you will be directed to Thompson Veterinary Clinic for haul in services in Manistique.
We apologize in advance for any inconvenience that may occur due to additional travel time. Our goal is to be able to ensure that weekend and holiday emergency veterinary care is available to our communities, while also sustaining quality of life for our veterinarians, technicians and supporting staff.
Thank you for your support and understanding, and we hope that this change will go smoothly as possible. Please contact us if you have further question or concerns.
MUNISING UPDATE Clients of Thompson Veterinary Clinic, Drs. Gustafson and Hoholik are saddened to announce the decision to close our Munising office located at 225 E Superior St, Munising, MI 49862 due to a staffing shortage. Our last day for veterinary service will be Thursday, January 16, 2020. We feel honored to have had the privilege of caring for your pets in areas surrounding Alger county since 1992. The decision to close our doors in Munising was difficult, but unfortunately necessary.
To ensure your pets continue to receive the care they need, all medical records will be transferred to the Manistique location (440 Chippewa Ave, Manistique, MI 49854, phone 906-341-2813). We would welcome the opportunity to continue to provide veterinary services for your pet(s) at our Manistique office, but we understand the inconvenience of the drive. If you elect to have veterinary services at another clinic, we would be happy to provide copies of your pet's medical records either to you or to a veterinary clinic of your choice.
We understand Manistique is a significant distance to travel for refills of medical prescriptions and purchases of food. For your convenience, prescriptions and foods may be requested at our online store:www.thompsonvetclinic.com and the items will be shipped to your door. If you do not see the medication you are looking for or if you need assistance with our online prescription website, please call our Manistique office at 906-341-2813 and we will assist you. We would like to thank all our clients who have been with us over the years. We value your support and look forward to serving your pets at our main office in Manistique.
Sincerely,
Thomas Gustafson, DVM Gail Hoholik, DVM Thompson Veterinary Clinic
